Team riders for Ultimate Skateboard Distribution recently broke ground in BC’s Okanagan. They came back with enough photos to fill 10-pages in the latest issue. Rich Odam shot the print article, and Skylar Kehr brought along his video camera to put together our latest web vid.
Long time skate photographer and Concrete contributor Jeff Comber (based in Toronto) has updated his site. Books 5, 6 and 7 are filled with ‘sparkling new photographs’ and if you haven’t checked out his site before make sure to flip through the whole thing. Jeff’s work is featured in pretty much every skate magazine you can think of as well as brands like Cliché, Adidas, Red Bull and more. Click the pic to see the site.
The word is out! Veteran skate-rat Andrew McGraw (who had an 8-page feature interview back in Issue 101, and a sick opening part in Elephant Direct more recently) just got well-deserved signature model on Zoo York‘s International program. McGraw’s board release party will commence on his home-turf (Montreal) tomorrow. Go help him celebrate:
This Saturday, October 30th, from 5pm – 10pm, head down to LEESIDE for the annual Halloween Costume Jam (click here to watch last year’s mayhem) for a ridiculous amount of shralping, prizes & the viewing of the latest Blood Wizard video. Don’t forget to dress up or Deer Man Of Dark Woods will hunt you down!
Just a reminder that the Empire Backyard Party mini ramp contest, presented by Vans, is happening this Saturday at South-Parc. Check the contest website to view the ramp design right here. The Durdeburde has a few quick “throwaways” (if you can call them that) up on The Berrics, in case you missed ‘em. Click the image:
Wee Wong is a motivated Vancouver skate veteran who also owns Auto Repairs R ‘Wee’, pulling mechanic duties for many local skaters (learn more about Wee right here). When the night falls, he’s been known to light up a bowl or two. This time around, Ethan Miller and George Faulkner did some under-the-cloak-of-darkness filming at Kensington’s pool. Watch out for the ginger (Quinn Starr), he’s ripping:
If you haven’t swung by already you should know that there’s lot’s of great stuff happening over at ATM Click. Not only is their site new and improved but the team has also put together a new trailer video featuring the talents of Josh Mohs, Nolan Helmstetter, Ed Devera, Aaron Babilia and Owen Sounds own Jesse Landen. Definitely worth a check out.
Vancouver’s Rob “Sluggo” Boyce (who can be found adorning the cover of Concrete Powder #1, 1990) has been ripping lately. The 41-year-old “retired” pro made his way down to Ramona, California on October 9th to skate Darren Navarrette’s invite-only vert jam: The Last Stand: Rumble In Ramona III. Things got epic, to say the least, and Sluggo held it down. Click here for more insight and coverage in case you missed it.

Jordan Mayfield has been taking advantage of the increasingly dwindling sunny, dry days in Metro Vancouver by capturing some good ol’ fashioned park barges on DV tapes. Check out this Push.ca cut featuring Spencer Hamilton, Chris Connolly, OG ripper Ben Nichol, Mike “Hashbrown” Schultze, and many more ripping the Plaza, North Delta, and Bonsor:
This past summer Nike SB travelled to Europe for ‘The Bird is the Word’ demo tour, making stops in London, Paris, Eindhoven, and Berlin. Blueprint’s Dan Magee accompanied the team on tour and has created a few edits to show a little bit of what went down: amazing demos, a large crew in a huge bus, good vibes, and last but not least the World Cup of Football and in particular Wieger’s passion for his home team.
The first 2 clips “Demo Life” and “Bonus 1″ are live right now, with “Street Life” and “Bonus 2″ going live on 10/26/10.
We were kinda late to the party with this one, but it’s never too late to post a good’er. Roger, the brainchild of Michael Sieben, is basically awesome. And this “Focus Groups” video from their Summer 2010 Texas trip is a prime example (keep an eye out for Vancouver’s Nate “Alligator Kid” LaCoste and Jamie Maley in this one):
Here’s LaCoste getting Danger Bay with a nosegrind cover (shot by Brian Caissie) at a temp spot back in Issue 97 (December 2008):
